Knowledge Transfer, University Partnerships and Research & Development
Businesses and organisations that invest in research and development are consistently at the forefront of their sectors. Within the creative sector, given the development of new audiences, technological advances and new media, research and development has never been more important.
Knowledge Transfer Partnerships are a method of enabling companies to obtain knowledge, technology or skills which they consider to be of key competitive importance, from the further/higher education sector or from a research and technology organisation. Knowledge Transfer is now an established tool in stimualing innovation in businesses. There are a range of formalised programmes active in the Knowledge Transfer field, most notably with Universities, but there are also a range of other opportunities and projects that artists and creative businesses can access that involve accessing support from Universities, businesses and other knowledge institutions.
"The growing need to commercialise the output of publicly-funded research
and knowledge intensive activity be it in the sciences, to the arts and social
sciences is evidenced by the fact that there are around 12,500 knowledge
transfer professionals employed in the UK and Ireland." Institute of Knowledge
