Creative Business Start Up Advice & Programmes

The overwhelming majority of artists and creative businesses are micro businesses or self employed individuals.  Whether you are starting your creative business from scratch or buying a business or franchise, it can be a daunting process.  There is however, a range of support available to creative businesses, both in terms of general and specialist support and guides.  Some of the most prominent are listed below.

There are also a range of commercial providers in the market place to help you to start your business, including Business Start Up agents, most high street commercial banks and business consultants or coaches.

Local Business Start Up Assistance

Business Link is the Government's official online
gateway to business support services.  Their comprehensive start up guide provides a range of practical advice and guidance and case studies.

Derbyshire Enterprise Agency has been helping small businesses for over  25 years.  DEA offer a broad range of services including advice and information, mentoring and guidance, training and workshops, networking events and managed workspace.

The Prince's Trust run an Enterprise Programme for young people aged 18-30.  The programme helps young people to explore and test their business ideas, write business plans and start their own businesses.

Derby University 'Start Up and Go' package is aimed at individuals who have been unemployed or at risk of redundancy.  The package provides a broad range of services including access to a mentor to provide specialist start up advice.
